Carilion Clinic Research Day

The 2025 Carilion Clinic Research Day will be held on Monday, April 14th at Riverside 4, G-102 A & G-102 B in Roanoke.

 

The registration link is now open.

Research Day is a forum for Carilion Clinic researchers and their external collaborators to highlight the work conducted in our hospitals, clinics, basic science laboratories and in the community. Researchers will have the choice to present their work as a poster or via oral presentation via Teams. In the past, over 100 abstracts comprised of research, case studies and quality projects were submitted. 

 

Abstracts are due by March 28th 5:00 pm. Poster and/ or oral presentation acceptances will be communicated by March 31st, 2025.

 

This year the poster session will be held at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, Riverside 4 G-102 A and B. Residents and Fellows will be presenting posters from 11:00- 1:00 followed Students and Faculty/ Staff from 2:00-4:00. Oral Presentations will be scheduled between 7:00 am – 10:00 am.

The Biomedical Data Science Innovation Lab and Seminar Series: still accepting applications

  • Theme is Quantitative Approaches in Spatial Multi-Omics for Guiding Personalized Medicine and the in-person lab will be June 16 - 20, 2025 in Nashville, Tennessee.

  • The goal of the 2025 Biomedical Data Science Innovation Lab (BDSIL) is to foster the formation of new interdisciplinary collaborations to generate creative strategies focused on the use of data science approaches in spatial multi-omics, particularly as applied to understanding cancer and rare diseases.

  • This is a great opportunity for early career researchers (biomedical researchers and / or data science researchers) to build networks and learn!  Anyone can attend the Seminar Series!

Virginia Catalyst Grant Round 18 is Open!

 

Could your team use up to $800,000 in funding to commercialize a life sciences innovation?

 

Virginia Catalyst is now accepting Letters of Intent (LOI) for Grant Round 18.

 

Key Dates:

  • LOI Due: March 14, 2025

  • Full Application Due: April 30, 2025

  • Funding decisions announced: June 2025

 

Virginia Catalyst awards grants of $200k–$800k and connects recipients with additional funding and strategic partnerships. Virginia Catalyst provides grant funding for collaborative projects, investments creating research tools, and infrastructure that catalyzes Virginia’s research universities, healthcare systems and companies to be national and global leaders. Funding is designed to facilitate the development and commercialization of life science projects that address major unmet needs for improving human health and advance Virginia’s economy. Competitive grant funding from the Virginia Catalyst has helped secure Virginia a 28-1 return on investment and added over 400 new jobs to date!

 

Funding Criteria:

  • Addresses a large, unmet need in human health

  • Product/service with commercialization potential

  • Collaborative team with industry and at least two Virginia universities (GMU, ODU-EVMS, UVA, VCU, VT)

  • Creates jobs in Virginia and attracts follow-on funding

  • At least 1:1 matching funds required
